Week Notes: March 22-28, 2026
General feeling: relieved.
š± Spring has sprung
Weāve been having the usual rollercoaster of temp changes here in Chicagoland with several days in the low 70s. The Spring/Summer birds are back and very vocal. At night the earthworms are coming out and you can hear them under the bed of leaves that I left on the lawn last Fall. And, for the first time, I heard an Eastern Screech Owl in the area for a couple of nights. Looking forward to everything about the warm weather other than the damned bugs, especially flies. Hate flies.
š¹ About that piano
I wrote in the last Week Notes about buying a new digital piano. I got time to finally play it properly last week. It is everything I hoped for. The keyboard action is phenomenal. The sound is phenomenal. It feels like playing a real piano to me and that is going to make practicing so much more fun.
š¦ The Unbearable Bleakness of Social Media
OK this is a theme I revisit, just like I end up doing with social media š I now have accounts on:
I need to write up a longer post about X but itās weird, really weird. Bluesky and Mastodon have their own weirdness but I get the feeling that even though itās a bunch of people mindlessly agreeing with stuff, theyāre both at least a much more intelligent crowd getting caught up in finding like-minded folks. Theyāre both tribal but not like X. X? The level of absolutely stupidity there is mind-blowing. I canāt believe people deliberately go on there to say some of the dumbest shit Iāve read. Ever.
